DNA Profile – Your unique identity!

DNA Profile Each person has a unique DNA profile (except identical twins). While an ID or a passport can be forged, your DNA is unique. Your genetic mapping is like a digital fingerprint.

The technological development in the human genome mapping allows you to get your DNA profile through a list of 21 genetic markers. Each marker has two entries, one from your father and the other one from your mother.

Examples of three markers from the list:
D3S1358 (15, 17)
TPOX (9, 10)
FGA (19, 22)
In your complete profile you will get a list of the 21 genetic markers each containing two values obtained in your DNA.

Personal DNA profile purposes

Kinship – If you were adopted as a child and you are trying to locate your birth parents, you will be able to compare your profile with their profile.

Join the will – sometimes after people pass away, there are people who claim to be descendants of the deceased and demand their part of the inheritance. Occasionally the court gives an order to open the grave and collect a sample of DNA from the deceased. In most cases the family of the deceased will have to enter a long, complicated and expensive legal process. Anyone who writes a will and includes his DNA profile may save future heartache for their family.

Child abduction – In some countries children are kidnapped every day. The children undergo brain washing by the kidnappers trying to make them forget their family so they don't want to return. Sometimes the children are located after several years, in which case the DNA test is required to verify the identity of the children. If, god forbid, your child disappears or is kidnapped, it is important to give the police his DNA profile to increase the success of the investigation.

Accident or murder – the hardest thing to hear is: "we are asking you to come identify the body". In case of a fire or when the body cannot be identified, the DNA profile of the deceased can provide information to the police investigators and help them identify the person who died.

Identical twins – let's move on to something more optimistic. You have twins and yet, you don't know if they are identical twins, or fraternal twins. Everyone is constantly asking you if they are identical twins, but you have no idea. After you get the DNA profile of both of them, you will know the answer to this question. Identical twins share an identical genetic background; therefore, both their profiles will have exactly the same values.
