How is the gender of the fetus determined by a DNA test?


Fetal gender is determined at the moment of the conception, when the sperm meets the egg. If the sperm that fertilized the egg is Y chromosome, it's a boy. If the sperm carries X chromosome, it will be a girl. Unlike ultrasound, the gender of the fetus is detected according to the organs that you can see (not always successfully), DNA testing works through the earlier stages of embryo genetic material. During pregnancy, fragments of fetal DNA are present in the blood and urine of the mother.

What is the success rate for correctly identifying fetal gender?


This test demonstrated that the prospects of the test have a material accuracy rate of 95% successful gender determination. The main reasons for the error in the remaining 5% are testing too early in the pregnancy, small amounts of the blood samples, use of antibiotics three weeks prior to sampling, blood transfusion 18 months prior to sampling, bone marrow transplantation from a male donor, a previous abortion or termination of pregnancy three months prior to the test and a twin pregnancy in which one of the embryos ceased to develop.
